We have an egg cooker at home that makes the best hard boiled eggs, but there is no room to bring it in the RV! Which is why I am so happy to learn this method to make Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs!
An instant pot may be one of the best kitchen appliances you can bring in your trailer. There are so many ways to skip the stovetop and use this relatively low-wattage appliance for all of your cooking needs.
Hard boiled eggs can be used in so many easy camping recipes, from egg salad to deviled eggs.
Hard boiling the eggs is also a great way to use the eggs and “preserve” them before traveling if you find that your eggs break in the RV refrigerator on travel day.
Instant Pot Boiled Eggs
Yield: One dozen eggs
Prep Time: 1 Minute
Cook Time: 15 Minutes
Chill Time: 10 Minutes
Ingredients
- 12 Medium/Large Eggs
- 1 Cup Water + Extra Water
- Ice
Directions
Wash and dry your eggs, if desired.
Place the eggs in one layer, in the bottom of the pot, making sure to not stack them on top of each other.
Add 1 cup of water.
Place your Instant Pot on manual/high pressure and set the timer for 5 minutes. It will take it about 5 minutes to pressurize and then it will start the 5-minute cooking countdown.
Let the pot naturally release for 5 minutes before manually releasing and removing the eggs.
This has often been called the 5-5-5 method for cooking eggs in a pressure cooker.
Fill a bowl big enough to hold the eggs, with water and some ice.
Immediately place the eggs from the instant pot into the cold water. Leave for 10 minutes.
Helpful Tips
- Actual cooking time is only 5 minutes, but it will take time to pressurize before cooking starts, and you have the release after it cooks, which also takes more time. Therefore, I believe it’s truly 15 minutes for the full cooking time.
- I used a 6-quart instant pot. If you have a smaller or larger one, you may need to reduce or add more eggs.
- You do not need the water to cover the eggs. It just needs to be about halfway up the eggs.
- An ice bath is one of the best ways to ensure the eggs will peel easily after cooking. However, you can also add a teaspoon of baking soda to the cooking water as that tends to help as well.
- Farm fresh eggs do not peel well, no matter what. I don’t know why! So, be aware that they might give you issues, even if you try these techniques.
