Kings Dominion is one of the most popular amusement parks in Virginia, and for good reason. It has over 60 rides and attractions, including roller coasters, water rides, and shows. If you’re planning a camping or RV trip to Kings Dominion, we have compiled a list of RV parks within a short drive of the amusement park.

Kings Dominion is an amusement park located in Doswell, Virginia, 20 miles north of Richmond and 75 miles south of Washington, D.C. The park is open from late spring to early fall, and has its own waterpark, Soak City. In addition to rides and attractions, Kings Dominion also has a number of live entertainment options, including shows, and concerts.

Camp Wilderness is Kings Dominion’s official campground. From spacious RV sites, to pop-up tent sites and deluxe cabins, the Kings Dominion KOA is the campground closest to the amusement park. This state park is approximately 38 miles from Kings Dominion and only 25 minutes from downtown Richmond, Virginia. This beautiful state park is perfect for those who love the great outdoors and looking for outdoor activities such as boating, camping, hiking trails (90 miles in total), leisure pools, boat rentals, toddler pool, tent camping, RV sites, group camping sites. The park has a Visitor Center, a CCC Museum, a camp store and boat rentals are available daily from 10 AM – 6 PM. Additional features include:

Located within Virginia’s newest state park, Powhatan State Park, the River Bend Campground is sited on the James River and is approximately a 45 mile drive from Kings Dominion and 36 miles from downtown Richmond. For those looking for outdoor recreation, Powhatan State Park is perfect for you! With a diverse wildlife habitat, full-service campground, multi-use hiking and biking trails all set in a hardwood forest putting you back into nature. The River Bend Campground offers a variety of accommodations from primitive canoe-in campsite, group campsites, tent sites, yurts for rent, or RV campsites with partial hook-ups. Other amenities include:

8. Rainbow Acres Campground

Thrill rides by day and riverfront back-to-nature by night perfectly describes the Rainbow Acres Campground. Located approximately 41 miles from Kings Dominion and site on the Mattaponi River, the campground offers a quiet and serene getaway set in a beautiful natural setting amidst pine trees and hardwoods along the river. The RV sites are level and spacious and can accommodate larger RVs. Or, if you prefer you can rent one of their cabins, a single room with one double bed and a pair of bunk beds – sleeping up to four people. The cabins are conditioned – heat and A/C – and they have a small refrigerator, microwave, and a ceiling fan. Cabin guests are required to bring their own bed linens and towels. 9. R&D Family Campground

The R&D Family Campground is small but full of amenities and is located a short 27-minute drive from the gates to the Kings Dominion amusement park. There is a lot to experience in this family-friendly campground and many ways to stay! From traditional RV sites, to cabins and tent sites – you can even rent an RV here – there is something for everyone in your group. The cabins are primitive with bunk beds, sleeping up to four people, but they are heated and include a small refrigerator and microwave.

The tent sites are set within the wooded area surround the campground giving you the national park feel, without the long drive out west. The campground offers several RVs and travel trailer that can be rented either daily, weekly, or monthly. The RV sites and the campground also include the following features:
