If you have never eaten boiled peanuts before, let us set your expectations. These nuts won’t be crisp and crunchy, instead they will have a soft, chewy texture that often increases the nutty flavor.

The longer that the peanuts cook, the softer and saltier they will become. You can easily customize the flavor by boiling the peanuts in a crockpot for a shorter or longer time.

How to Make Crockpot Boiled Peanuts

Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Cook Time: 7 Hours 30 Minutes
Rest Time: 30 Minutes
Yields: 2 Pounds of Peanuts

We used a six-quart crockpot for this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 Pounds Raw Peanuts in Shell
  • ¼ Cup Salt (or more)
  • Water

Directions

Sort through the peanuts and make sure there are no random pieces of shells, debris, etc. If you find anything, be sure to remove it.

Rinse the peanuts under running water and then soak them in cold water for 30 minutes. Drain.

Place the peanuts and salt in the crockpot and cover with water until it is about 1 inch from the top of the bowl.

Cook on high for 7 ½ hours or until the desired softness of the peanuts has been achieved.

Test a peanut about halfway through the cooking time and see if it is salty enough for you. If not, add more salt and stir and continue cooking

During the cooking time, add more water to the crockpot if the water ever falls below the top of the peanuts.

Once the peanuts are soft enough, drain the liquid off.

How to Store: Do not store these peanuts in liquid. Place them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Do not freeze.

Helpful Tips for Making Crockpot Boiled Peanuts

  • We used raw peanuts in the shell, which is different from green peanuts.
  • We used a 6-quart crock pot. If you use a smaller or larger slow cooker, times may vary.
  • At 7 ½ hours, the peanuts were pretty soft. Each crockpot is different, so the cook time may vary to get to the softness level that you prefer.
  • We started with a ¼ cup salt, because we do like salty peanuts. If you don’t like very salty foods, start with 1/8 cup salt.
