Located only 25 miles south of Asheville, NC, Hendersonville is a great home base for RVers and campers who want to visit some of Western North Carolina’s greatest attractions.

Attractions Near Hendersonville, NC

While spending time in Hendersonville, take a stroll down its Main Street for great local restaurants, local shops, and gear up for your outdoor adventures at the Mast General Store.

Do you need RV specific gadgets? They’ve got you covered at Camping World of Asheville, conveniently located on the side of Interstate 26 just 10 miles from downtown Hendersonville.

If wine and hard apple cider is your scene, check out Burntshirt Vineyards, the Appalachian Ridge Artisan Cidery, and Bold Rock Hard Cider in neighboring Mills River, NC.

To the west of Hendersonville, visitors can take in fly fishing in the French Broad River or hiking and cycling in great locations such as the DuPont State Park, the Holmes Educational State Forest, and the Pisgah National Forest.

East of Hendersonville is the quaint town of Lake Lure, Chimney Rock Village, and the Chimney Rock State Park.

Just south of Hendersonville is the village of Flat Rock, home to the Flat Rock Playhouse and the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site.

Just north of Hendersonville is Asheville, home of the Biltmore Estate, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Visitor Center, and of course the city’s famed brewery, art, and culinary scene.

Lakewood RV Resort

If you’re looking for a 55+ only RV park near Hendersonville that is conveniently located just off Interstate 26, then check out Lakewood RV Resort. This highly ammenitized RV park welcomes rigs of all sizes.

One major plus about this RV park is that it is opened year-round, somewhat of a rarity for RV Parks in Western North Carolina.

Red Gates RV Park

When choosing a campground to stay at in Hendersonville, Red Gates RV Park is the one we chose. It is close to all of the major attractions in the Hendersonville area, while also feeling removed from hustle and bustle.

A major perk of Red Gates RV Park is that it is located across from Burntshirt Winery. Which means you can walk to the winery for a tour and tasting.

Red Gates RV Park is only open seasonally. Generally, it is open April 1 – November 1. However, based on our experience, you will want to call ahead because we were able to stay earlier than that and stay later.

Full hook-ups are a plus at this campground, but there is plenty of tent camping available, too.

Rutledge Lake RV Resort

If you’re looking for an RV Park that has a lot of amenities, welcomes RV’s of all sizes, and offers cabins for rent on a lakefront setting then check out Rutledge Lake RV Resort.

We chose to stay at Rutledge Lake because it was open year-round, close to both Hendersonville, Asheville, and all of the chain restaurants and shopping you will need for your journey.

We reserved a lake front spot which offered great views of the lake and ducks all while accommodating our 50-foot truck and trailer set up.

Blue Ridge Travel Park

If you want to stay roughly halfway between the Chimney Rock Village – Lake Lure area and Hendersonville, then reserve your spot at Blue Ridge Travel Park. This RV Park is tucked in back under the trees offering a more natural setting.

Davidson River Campground

Located within the Pisgah National Forest, about a 30-minute drive from downtown Hendersonville, the Davidson River Campground offers over 100 sites for either tent campers or RV’s.

If you’re looking to stay in a more traditional campground next to a stream within a truly natural setting, then check out this option.

Davidson River Campground is open seasonally. Generally, it is open April 1 – October 31 offering access to the many hiking and biking trails within the Pisgah National.

If you drive further through Pisgah National Forest, you have vehicular access to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Elijah Gem Mine

A new Harvest Hosts location, Elijah Gem Mine is a fun destination for kids and adults. It is located on US 64 between Hendersonville and Brevard.

If you are not familiar with Harvest Hosts, it is an alternative camping option that allows you to spend the night for free at a business in exchange for supporting the business. In this case, you would need to buy a bucket of dirt for the gem mine or buy items in the gift shop.

There is only one spot available per night, so be sure to join Harvest Hosts for a low price and book your stay.
